1) BRITISH. Overall length: 38 1/4". Blade length: 31 3/8”. A 19th century British Naval officer’s sword with a blade that’s etched over the first 13 1/2" with various military and patriotic devices. The ricasso is etched “J. FRIEDEBERG QUEEN ST PORTSEA”. Portsea is an island area near Portsmouth, England. Gilded brass hilt with a folding inner guard and a crowned anchor decorating the outer guard. Lion head pommel with wire-wrapped white sharkskin grip. A partial sword knot is attached to the hilt. Gilded brass-mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray, mottled patina. Hilt shows only traces of original gilding but is undamaged. Grip is 100%, but the wire is a bit dislodged. Scabbard mounts show only traces of original gilding, and the leather body shows scuffs and scrapes but no breaks. 2) FRENCH. Overall length: 38 1/2". Blade length: 32”. A model 1884 French NCO sword with a plain triangular blade etched near the ricasso “M=d’Armes de Chalt 7 bre= 1888 Epee de S.G Mle=1887”. Brass hilt with a flaming bomb on the front guard and the number “6737” stamped on the back guard. The plain knuckle bow has three hallmarks, and the grip is simulated wire-wrapped. Darkened iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray overall patina. Hilt shows light overall wear. Scabbard remains solid, with oxidation primarily around the drag. 3) SPANISH. Overall length: 37 1/2". Blade length: 30 3/8”. Blade has a single narrow fuller and is stamped on the ricasso, “TOLEDO SPAIN”. Plated guard with a black and red enameled Spanish crowned royal crest. Two-piece composite grip with a plated pommel. Plated iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has been heavily sharpened. Hilt, except for the guard, has lost much of its plating. Scabbard remains solid with light wear. (02-22800-3/BF). $600-900.
