1) This first example is 4 1/2" in diameter and depicts a black cat fitted with biplane wings and a tail section. There are concentric black and blue lines on the outside and black and blue lines on the interior to show shading. The back of the patch has an ink inscription that appears to read "Gift of: Capt. C.B. Gaithauer Summer '42." CONDITION: patch shows light fading with no damage. 2) This example is 4 1/4" in diameter and depicts an ace of clubs on a maroon field with an American P38 Lightning diving diagonally across the card. The ace of clubs is done in black and white paint, with the field of the patch being a dark maroon. CONDITION: patch does show a little flexing and soiling but remains quite sharp and vivid. 3) Lastly, a shield-shaped patch measuring approx. 4 3/4" x 4". The patch is divided in half diagonally with an oddly crenelated line. The orange top of the patch has a crossed screwdriver and wrench in black, and the bottom black half of the patch has an orange boar’s head. CONDITION: patch remains vivid, but there is some flexing and a bit of paint loss, particularly in the black half. (02-23087/BF). $500-750.
