1) An interesting bayonet measuring 27 1/2" overall that closely resembles a French M1842/59 bayonet. The blade has a single wide fuller and is marked at the ricasso "P.D.L" in a dotted oval. There may be a date stamped on the other side that has been made illegible by light pitting. The guard is iron and takes a rudimentary S-like shape, with the muzzle ring at the top. The grip and pommel are solid brass with no spring assembly or slide channel at the top. The grip rings are present. It is possible this was a bayonet and was field altered to a short sword. Iron scabbard similar to the French M1866 scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark overall patina with light pitting. Hilt has a deep mustard patina. Scabbard has an oxidized finish. 2) An Austrian M1867 bayonet altered in 1873 to an 18 1/2" blade. Currently, the overall measurement is 25 1/4". The Yataghan blade has a single wide fuller and is marked near the hilt "GF ANT. STRIBERNY (Austrian eagle)." Iron guard with muzzle ring at the top. Iron pommel with two-piece pressed leather grip. Iron scabbard with frog stud. CONDITION: bayonet generally shows light wear overall with a dark patina to all iron parts. 3) A Mauser export bayonet with an overall length of 21 1/2" and a blade length just over 15 1/2". The only marks on the blade are "98589 A." Iron guard with a barrel ring at the top. Iron pommel. Two-piece crosshatched wooden grips. Iron-mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium dark patina. Hilt shows some oxidation. Grips are intact. Scabbard is a bit flexed, and its mounts show oxidation. (02-23380-8/BF). $300-500.
