The model 1913 cavalry sword was designed by General George S. Patton & is commonly referred to as the “Patton sword”. It represents a technological leap forward concentrating on the thrusting power of cavalry rather than the hacking power. 1) Overall length: 43”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1917” & “US32361” on the other. Sheet steel guard that has been trimmed & narrowed. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dull gray finish w/ a few minor darker stains. Hilt has been painted black. 2) Overall length: 43”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered plated blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1913” & “US3363” on the other. Heavily chrome plated steel guard w/ chrome plated backstrap. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. Heavily plated metal company officer’s type scabbard. CONDITION: blade has minor scattered bubbling to the plating. Hilt remains shiny. Grips are heavily worn. Scabbard retains all finish. 3) Overall length: 43”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered heavily chrome plated blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1914” & “US29186” on the other. Heavily chrome plated steel guard w/ chrome plated backstrap. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. Heavily plated metal company officer’s type scabbard. CONDITION: blade retains a mirror finish as does the hilt. Grips show very light wear. Scabbard has noticeable loss of finish in some areas & fits the blade very loosely. (02-13641(3)/BF). $700-1,100.
