1) GAR. A black felt slouch hat with a brown leather sweatband, silver-embossed with the words "The Fifth Avenue". The hat has a velvet pillow sewn to the front with a GAR wreath and the number "5" attached. The left side of the hat has a bullion and velvet badge resembling a Civil War 19th Corps badge. The top of the badge had a metal, false-embroidered "A" at the top. The hat also has a quality post-Civil War officer’s hat cord attached. CONDITION: hat shows light wear overall. 2) VETERAN/FRATERNAL. A dark blue wool kepi with the remains of a black mohair band. The kepi features an embroidered gold bullion eagle on the front with the number "70" above. The crown of the hat has a gold-embroidered and maroon insignia resembling a 19th Corps badge. The hat has a gold bullion chin cord with tin-back staff buttons. The black silk interior has a silver embossing that reads, in part, "HIGHEST GRADE". CONDITION: hat shows severe moth damage with equally severe damage to the mohair trim. 3) CAVALRY. A private purchase cavalry officer’s kepi from the Indian War period. Kepi has a near-black wool body with a dark blue velvet crown and band. The front of the kepi has sewn-on gold bullion crossed sabers. Leather chinstrap with a single frame buckle terminated by tin-back staff buttons. The interior of the kepi has a brown sweatband with a partially legible tag that appears to read "CROSS, MORGAN & CO. 46 UNION STREET…". CONDITION: kepi generally shows light wear with a little loss of knap to the crown. (02-22879/BF). $400-600.
