1) M1860 CAVALRY. This Civil War-era saber measures 41" overall with a 34 3/4" plain blade with one large fuller and a secondary fuller near the spine. The ricasso is marked "C. ROBY W CHELMSFORD MASS" and "US 1865 A.G.M." Brass hilt with two-branch semi-basket guard. Wire-wrapped leather grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium to dark patina. Hilt shows a mellow mustard patina. Grip is worn but complete. Wire is 100%. 2) SERGEANT. This type of sword was generally used by militia sergeants before and during the Civil War. It measures 31" overall with a 25" plain blade. Gilded brass hilt with shield languets and a knight's head pommel. Reeded carved bone grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, mottled patina. Hilt shows traces of original gilding. Grip remains solid. 3) M1852 NAVY. This M1852 Navy officer's sword likely dates to the Spanish American War or WWI. Overall length: 36". Blade length: 29 3/4". The blade is etched with various nautical and foliate motifs, including a 3 1/2" panel that reads "A. F. CAPRON." Gilded brass hilt with pierced guard, bearing the letters "USN," and dolphin quillon. The knuckle bow terminates with another dolphin head, and the top of the pommel has an American eagle with 13 stars. The knuckle bow is wrapped with a period sword knot. White sharkskin grip with wire wrap. Gilded brass-mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina. Hilt shows light wear but retains only traces of original gilding. Knot is a bit rough. Scabbard is quite solid but retains only traces of original gilding on the mounts. (02-23417/BF). $300-450.
