PICTURED IN "U.S. MILITARY HOLSTERS AND RELATED ACCOUTREMENTS" BY SCOTT EDWARD MEADOWS. Each holster is made of one piece of woven web material with brass rivets fastening, US Navy button on exterior of flap, wire hangar, & protective tip; all brass parts have "Mills Bronze" finish. 1) EARLY HOLSTER FOR .38 CAL. U.S. NAVY REVOLVER. Pictured on page 538 of said book. The Navy adopted the Mills holster circa 1905 as standard. CONDITION: holster in very good condition showing fading finish on tip with spots of verdigris, & scattered spots of stains. 2-3) TWO HOLSTER FOR .45 CALIBER, MODEL 1909 NAVY REVOLVER. One of these holsters is pictured on page 541 of said book. Only the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps are known to have officially adoped the Mills holster for use with their Model 1909, .45 caliber, Colt double action revolvers. The number was limited as only 1,000 Model 1909 revolvers were purchased by the Navy. CONDITION: One holster has very good appearance with faded finish on tip with verdigris around the tip, one hole in holster on right side, scattered spots of staining & scattered sm. spots of verdigris. Other holster in good condition having a darker stained appearance, light wear to bronze finish, retainer for flap snap is broken off body of holster.
