The 36-star flag of the United States was in use from October 31st of 1864 until March 1st of 1867, when Nebraska became the 37th state. This flag, therefore, can be considered a late Civil War period flag. This cotton flag measures approx. 53" x 34 1/2". It has a blue printed canton with sewn red and white stripes. It has a heavy, sewn white cotton hoist with hand-sewn grommets. The hoist has the penned name "L. Johnston" on the canton just above the lower grommet. CONDITION: the flag shows a few minor small holes and separations. The white areas are a bit yellowed and there are scattered, very minor stains. Generally, the flag is quite solid and displays very well. (02-22915/BF). $400-700.
