6’ x 6’ silk embroidered colors of National Guard unit in Washington state 1917-1921.
On July 11, 1917, the Washington State Guard was created to replace any National Guard units called into Federal service. Under this the 3rd Washington Infantry Regiment, National Guard of Washington, was created. With the 2nd Washington Infantry’s designation being changed to the 161st Infantry Regiment upon entering Federal service and subsequent deployment to France, the 3rd Washington remained to protect the coast and harbor areas of the state with headquarters in Seattle.
With the end of World War 1 and the return of the 161st Infantry Regiment to Washington state, the need for the 3rd Washington Infantry was soon to fade into history. It was still listed on state rosters as of June 1920 but by 1922 the regiment was no longer listed, disbanded.
The unit’s flag contains a blue field, the traditional color of Army infantry units.
CONDITION: very good to fine overall. (02-17547-55/JS). $600-800.
