Cal. 44 WCF. S# 6570. Bbl. 22". Model 53 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1926. Left side of the bbl. is marked with the cal. designation, followed by the Winchester trademark logo, "-NICKEL STEEL-" and the cal. designation. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Plain wood forearm and straight grip buttstock with grooved steel buttplate. Dovetailed natural white beaded Marbles No. 2 blade front sight with dovetailed Lyman No. 6 (unmarked) style 2-leaf rear sight, and tang mounted flip-up aperture sight. Button mag. CONDITION: receiver, lever, and buttplate have faded to a gray brown patina, exhibiting patches and areas of light surface oxidation, as well as some superficial handling marks. Bbl. retains large amounts of its original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that are fading to brown patina (primarily visible under light), with scattered spots of light surface oxidation and superficial handling marks. Near mirror bore, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting, while retaining good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks, small impressions, and flaking tot he varnish, but otherwise remains sound. PROVENANCE: Estate of Groves Herrick. (25-5710/MLW). CURIO. $600-900.
