These sabers all date to the late 19th century to the early 20th century and originate from Germany or Austria.
1) BAVARIA. Overall length 35 3/4". Blade length 29 3/8". A Bavarian officer’s sword with a blade that is etched over the first 16" with various military and foliate motifs. There is a darkened panel on one side that depicts a charging cavalry unit facing a charging hussar unit. The other side has a darkened panel that reads “K.B.7Chev.Regt.Prinz Alfons.” Polished steel hilt with folding guard that features a rampant Bavarian lion with sword & shield. 1 Piece composite molded grip. Black enameled iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows substantial original factory polish. Hilt shows light wear. Scabbard has minor loss of finish and one notable dent.
2) PRUSSIAN. Overall length 36 1/4". Blade length 29 3/8". A low ranking Prussian officers sword with a plain double fullered blade stamped at the ricasso “(kings head)(knights head) W.K.&C.” Black finished iron hilt features a folding guard that depicts a Prussian eagle. Wire wrapped black composite grip. Black enameled iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish. Hilt retains 60% of its black finish. Grip has a couple tiny losses. Scabbard shows light wear.
3) HESSIAN. Overall length 38". Blade length 32". A fine Hessian officers sword from the town of Hannau. Blade is etched over the first 17" with military and foliate motifs. One side has a darkened panel that reads “II.Hannau.Feld Artill. Regt. No26.” The other side has several small darkened areas. One features a mounted bugler and ribbons that reads “DEUTSCHLAND UBERALLES”, “IN DER WELT!”, “Wohlauf”, “KAMERADEN” & “AUFS PFERD!”. Plated plain reverse P hilt with languets and ears on the backstrap. Plain birds head pommel. Wire wrapped sharkskin grip with sword knot attached. Black enameled iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows substantial original factory polish. Hilt shows light overall wear. Knot shows heavy wear. Scabbard has 15% loss of finish but no dents.
4) GERMAN\AUSTRIAN. Overall length 36 1/2". Blade length 29 1/2". A German or Austrian enlisted mounted saber used by cavalry as well as artillery. Plain single fullered blade. Heavy reverse P iron hilt stamped on the cross guard “1.\R.R.6.239” & “1920”. Guard has languets and a downturned quillon. Heavy iron backstrap with ears on both sides. 1 Piece reeded wood grip. Darkened iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray finish with scattered staining. Hilt and scabbard show light wear overall. (02-18151-4/BF). $800-1,200.
