1) CAVALRY. An assembled M1881 cavalry helmet with an orange/yellow plume. The plume holder, base, eagle & side buttons all have a pleasing brass patina mixed with traces of original gilding. Although the aiguilette guides should be present, they have not been mounted on this helmet. CONDITION: helmet has a few dents to the body and is a bit dirty. 2) ARTILLERY. An assembled M1881 Artillery spike helmet. The spike, base, eagle & side buttons all have a pleasing patina with substantial original gilding remaining. The side buttons are incorrect for this helmet as they are for an officer’s model. CONDITION: helmet is quite strong and just a bit dirty. 3) NEW YORK. An enlisted grade 4 piece New York M1881 style spike helmet. The spike, base, side buttons & New York front plate all have a pleasing brass patina mixed with the remaining original gold finish. The interior has a Ridabock label along with several ink stamps. CONDITION: helmet is a bit worn but remains substantially strong. 4) PITH HELMET. A good example of an M1887 US sun helmet, otherwise known as a pith helmet. The body of the helmet is khaki colored canvas assembled in 4 major sections. The underside is green cotton with a brown leather sweatband. CONDITION: light to moderate overall wear. (02-19029/BF). $500-800.
