During WWI, Germany recognized that improved hand grenade designs were needed. In 1915, regulation stick grenades (Stielhandgranates) were issued.
1-2) 2 MODEL 15. One has the Kugel style grenade head w/out pin overall: 13". One has can style head w/ safety pin overall: 14". CONDITION: Worn weathered appearance to both grenades. Handles show grain checks, scuffs & other handling marks. Oxidized worn metal finish throughout, however one appears to have repainted threaded section.
3-4) 2 MODEL 17. Overall 14" w/ star shaped plugs (2 have cords inside handle, other is corroded shut). Laminated wood handles. Metal can heads w/ belt hook loops marked "VON GERBAUCH / SPRENGKAPSEL / EINSETZEN" w/ maker's codes "ELB" or "SEB". CONDITION: worn finish throughout w/ oxidation & flaking finish. Handles are worn w/ handling marks & grain checking. (02-16239-1/MD). $500-750.
