GEORGE CLARK DATED AUGUST 27, 1863. The first line of the letter reads, “On the railway, August 27 / ’63 My Dear Sister,”. A well written, newsy letter in a good hand that is quite legible. He appears to be traveling to Alexandria, Virginia & is engaged in securing railroads from guerillas. He signs the letter, “Brother G.H. Clark”. Clark was in Company I of the 33rd Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment & was killed at the Battle of Wauhatchie, Tenn. CONDITION: paper is very slightly yellowed & there is a sm. tear on the right half of the page likely done when opening the letter. (02-16300/BF). $200-300.
