This lot of four round, canvas-covered canteens generally dates from the late Indian War to the Spanish American War period. One example has a canvas cover stenciled "U.S." with a stopper on a chain. The second example is similar to the first but has noticeable dents to the body. The third example has a partial leather sling, a canvas cover stenciled "U.S." and a stopper on a chain. The fourth example has a canvas cover that has been painted gray with the letters "CSA" stenciled on the front, likely by a reenactor. The top of the spout is missing. CONDITION: all canteens show light to moderate wear, except as noted above. (02-22884/BF). $200-400.
