1) SPRINGFIELD ARMORY M1904 HOSPITAL CORPS BOLO KNIFE WITH SCABBARD. #US 39074. 1914 date. This is the first Springfield edged instrument to be serialized. This was the final year the Springfield made this variation which began production in 1904. It ha a 12' heavy blade designed for cutting brush and also doubling as a fighting knife. The S shaped guard is made of brass as is the pommel cap. The finger groove grips are made of walnut and attached with rivets. It is accompanied by a 1911 dated Rock Island Arsenal scabbard with belt hook. CONDITION: overall very good with some light oxidation and rub marks on the blade. Grips shows some handling marks with some dings and small chips on the high point of the finger grooves. Nice scabbard showing some light handling marks. 2) SPRINGFIELD ARMORY M1904 HOSPITAL CORPS BOLO KNIFE WITH SCABBARD. # US 9321. Dated 1909. Same configuration as above. Accompanied with a 1910 dated Rock Island Arsenal scabbard. CONDITION: overall good-fair. The blade has some sharpening to the edge with spotted oxidation and light scratches. The guard exhibits some dings. The grips have some light dents and handling marks with a few dings. Scabbard has some scuffing and handling marks. 3) PLUMB PHILADELPHIA M1917 BOLO KNIFE WITH SCABBARD. A simplified version of the M1910 bolo without the scabbard lock. Dark parkerized blade with a straight crossguard and birds head pommel. Accompanied with a canvas covers scabbard with leather drag. CONDITION: overall fair. This example has seen use with a sharpened blade with thinning finish. Grips, guard and pommel show scattered handling marks. Lightly worn canvas and some scuffing on the leather drag of the scabbard. 4) PLUMB PHILADELPHIA M1917 BOLO KNIFE WITH 1918 DATED BRAUER BROS. SCABBARD. Same configuration as above. CONDITION: overall very fine. This bolo has not seen any real use. The blade retains nearly all of its original finish with some light handling marks. The grips, guard and pommel are very fine with some light dents and handling marks. Scabbard is very fine with a nicely marked leather drag. (02-25471/ZAL). NON-GUN. $500-900.
