1) BRITISH. Overall length: 39 1/4". Blade length: 32 3/8”. The blade has a single 12 1/2" medium fuller in the center. The blade is marked near the hilt “(crown) 49 W” with two armorer’s marks on one side and “(crown) 49 W (crown) 49 W 10 ’01 WILKINSON LONDON” on the other. Sheet iron basket guard with knot decoration & piercings. The knuckle bow has a pierced crowned "VR." Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. No scabbard. The sword is housed in a modern American leather sword carrier. CONDITION: blade has an overall dark patina, as does the hilt. The grip shows light wear overall. 2) BRITISH. Overall length: 43". Blade length: 35 3/4”. Plain, pipe-back blade lightly etched over about 6” with a crowned “GR IV" and a lower panel etched “PROSSER Sword Cutler to the KING.” Sheet iron basket guard with knot and foliate, pierced decoration throughout. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina with a single notable nick. The tip of the blade has visible pitting. Hilt has an overall dark patina. Grip shows light wear, and the wire is complete. Scabbard has a dark, mottled patina. 3) BRITISH. Overall length: 41”. Blade length: 34”. This British P1822 dragoon saber has a blade with a single wide fuller and unmarked ricasso. Iron semi-basket guard with 2 branches to the front and 2 small branches to the rear. The downturned quillon is stamped “E695” on one side and “AE” on the other. Slightly stepped pommel with an eared backstrap. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, matte finish. Hilt has a medium gray, mottled patina. Grip is complete but dry. Scabbard has been painted black. 4) FRENCH/BELGIAN. Overall length: 38 1/2". Blade length: 31 1/2". An interesting example of a French/Belgian M1850 officer’s sword that is known to have been utilized by both sides during the American Civil War. The blade has a single medium fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. The ricasso is boldly stamped “FONSON & CIE FABRICANTS BRUXELLES.” Plated brass hilt featuring a 3-branch, semi-basket guard. Simple bird's-head pommel with wire-wrapped wood grip. Plated brass-mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, mottled patina. Hilt is a bit misshaped and has 50% finish remaining. Grip is complete. Wire is about 70%. Scabbard shows flexing to the body, and the mounts show moderate wear 5) GERMAN. Overall length: 37”. Blade length: 31 1/2". A pre-WWI Imperial German officer’s saber featuring a pipe-back blade of Damascus steel. The blade is etched over 6” of its length with various geometric motifs, including a small panel on one side that reads “DAMAST-STAHL” on one side and “EISENHAUER” on the other. The etching has gold highlights in the background. The ricasso is stamped “(king’s head) (knight’s head) W.K & C.” a plated iron guard with two slots near the tubular quillon. Plain, slightly reversed P knuckle bow. Plain backstrap with a bird's-head pommel. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. The sword has a period blue and bullion knot attached. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, mottled patina. Hilt has a general dark patina with some original plating remaining. Knot shows moderate wear with losses to the top of the acorn.
