1) M1840 CAVALRY. Overall length: 44”. Blade length: 36”. Plain blade with a single wide fuller and a secondary fuller near the spine. The blade is not maker-marked and appears to be a European import. The leather washer has a scalloped edge. Brass hilt with semi-basket 2-branch guard. Brass wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has silver paint residue near the hilt. Hilt generally shows light wear, with a mellow mustard patina on the brass. Scabbard has been painted silver & gold, as commonly done by GAR posts. 2) US M1860 CAVALRY. Overall length: 42 1/2". Blade length: 35”. The blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. The ricasso reads "U.S. 1865 A.G.M." and "C ROBY W. CHELMSFORD MASS." White buff washer. Brass 2-branch semi-basket hilt. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has been chrome-plated. Hilt has been gold-plated. The plating on the hilt is approx. 60% intact. Grip leather is 35% intact. The wire is complete. Scabbard has also been chrome-plated. 3) US M1860 CAVALRY. Overall length: 42 5/8". Blade length: 34 3/4”. The blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. The ricasso is marked “US G.K.C. 1865." White buff washer. Brass 2-branch semi-basket hilt. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with some evidence of cleaned pitting. The hilt is misshaped and appears to have been gold-plated. Grip and wire are complete. Scabbard has been painted black. 4) CAVALRY. Overall length: 41”. Blade length: 34 1/4". This type of saber has often been called, in the past, an M1872 enlisted saber. Such a saber does not actually exist and was never contracted for. This lightweight M1860 was produced for use at military schools and academies in the post-Civil War period. a narrow, plain blade with a single medium fuller. Brass semi-basket 2-branch guard. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with minor staining. Hilt has a pleasing mustard patina. Grip shows light wear, and the wire is complete. Scabbard shows residue of silver paint. 5) MUSICIAN. Overall length: 34 1/2". Blade length: 28”. The blade has a single medium fuller and is stamped at the ricasso “US D 1852” and “Made By AMES MFG CO CHICOPEE." Solid brass hilt & grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with some nicks to the edge. Hilt has a pleasing patina. (02-21828/BF). $1,200-1,500.
