Cal. 8 bore. S# 17391. The 36" three stripe damascus barrels are engraved "E.M. Reilly & Co New Oxford Street London & 6 Rue Scribe. Paris" on broad game rib. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with London black powder proofs for 8 gauge. Robust Jones underlever action is fitted with front spring locks having serpentine rebounding hammers with tall finger spurs. Action is well filed and is engraved with line borders. Locks, also with line borders, have maker's name on ribbon on each plate. Steel trigger guard has S# on tang. Dark dense stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-5/8" over steel buttplate with short top tang. Stock features drop points, flat top grip checkering and vacant gold oval. Matching splinter forend is near fully checkered and has shaped horn tip. Forend attaches to barrel with captive sidebolt through oval steel escutcheons recessed so head of bolt does not protrude. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: 2-1/8". DAC: 1-5/8". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-5/8". WEIGHT: 12 lb. 4 oz. CONDITION: very good to fine. Barrels retaining perhaps 30% original brown. Action and locks with 20-30% case color. Stock shows considerable wear to what appears to be original oil finish. Checkering considerably worn; almost flat on forend. Bores are very good to fine; shiny with some scattered pitting. Action is tight. Locks are good. E.M. Reilly guns, even relatively plain examples like this, are always of superb quality.
