POSSIBLE SPANISH ORIGIN. This horn measures approx. 14" x 4” at the butt. The narrow end is closed with a cork-like material, and the butt also likely closed with a cork-like material that is now missing. Carved decoration on the horn includes a horse and a rider wearing what could be interpreted to be a sombrero, a horned bull with a neck sash, initials, foliate decoration, and more. There is an iron cleat at the spout for attachment to a leather strap, and the opposite end is threaded through the horn with a leather thong. CONDITION: the horn generally shows light to moderate wear with minor deterioration of the cork end that is present. The leather carrying strap is a bit dry but remains solid. The engraving generally remains quite clear and easily discerned. (02-22461/BF). $500-800.
