FAMILY OWNERSHIP HISTORY TO PRESIDENT ANDREW JACKSON. . Overall length: 40 3/4". Blade length: 33 3/4". This sword with direct descent in the family of President Andrew Jackson to a 5th generation descendant. All inheritors of the sword appear in the family tree, a copy of which is included. Additional documentation comprises a signed & notarized letter from 5th generation President Andrew Jackson descendent, Leslie Massey Jr., documenting the sword’s history and association with President Jackson. Blade has a single large fuller with gold highlighted etching on a blued field over 1/3 of its length. Etching includes various military motifs, including a large American eagle with 18 stars above and a large ribbon that reads “E. PLURIBUS UNUM”. There are also stands of American flags and a large wreath surrounding the words “honour and my country”. Silvered brass hilt with sharply downturned guard & medallion quillon. Classically formed knuckle bow with no embellishments. Exceptionally well-articulated eagle head pommel with beautifully sculpted feathers. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Silvered brass scabbard. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a framed photograph of the sword with a portrait of Andrew Jackson. Notarized letters & family tree documenting the sword's descent in the Jackson family, together with a brief family history of the family. CONDITION: blade exhibits a medium gray, mottled patina. The etching remains quite sharp with substantial gold highlights remaining. Hilt is slightly loose with traces of the original silvered finish. Grip leather is approx. 90%, and grip wire is intact but out of its grooves. The scabbard with a few scattered minor dents and traces of original silver. The Andrew Jackson family eagle hilt represents an opportunity to acquire an example of the quintessential American sword with very plausible ownership by one of America’s most important Presidents.
