SWORD. Overall length: 30 1/2". Blade length: 24 3/4". The blade has a single large fuller & a raised medial ridge. It is etched over 10” of its length with superbly executed hunting & forest scenes. The ricasso is stamped “Wien Weyersberg & Stamm Solingen”. Gilded brass hilt with a turned down foliate decorated guard featuring an Austrian eagle in the center. Deer hoof quillon with oak leaf decorated knuckle bow & ferrule. 2-Piece bone grip with 3 rounded brass studs on each side. Gilded brass highly decorated scabbard mounts on a black leather body. CONDITION: blade has a pleasing light gray finish, and etching remains quite clear and striking. Hilt retains most of its original gilded finish and the bone grips show tight age cracks. Scabbard mounts retain nearly all of their original gilding. Leather is solid but a bit flaked. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18709/BF). $1,000-1,500.
