19th century, Flemish School. Signed on verso "A.W. Freeman". A nearly identical version attributed to Egislo Manzuele and signed by that artist on the verso is also known. Oil on canvas depicts a group in period dress seated at table in the act of having a meal and conversing. The light from beyond the tavern is the primary source of illumination for the scene, typical of this school and period. Housed in a 19th century gilt frame of grapes and vines. SIZE: 15 1/2" x 19 1/4". Overall is 26" x 29". CONDITION: original canvas and stretcher. Painting retains original surface. Very good overall. PROVENANCE: John Webber Estate, Bangor, Maine. (05-549/TG). $800-1,400.
