SCHUETZEN RIFLE. Cal. 32-40. S# 18203. Bbl. 28" custom measuring 1" across the muzzle. Left side of bbl. is marked "A. W. PETERSON-DENVER, COLO". Axel W. Peterson was a Swedish-born gunsmith. In 1903 he formed a partnership w/ George Schoyen in Denver. After Schoyen passed in 1916, Peterson continued making the accurate rifles he was famous for until his death at age 86 in 1946. Wind-Gauge globe front sight w/ mid range Vernier tang sight. Bbl. has 4 open holes for scope block attachment. Case colored Highwall action w/ single set trigger. Ebony tipped schnable forearm & hard rubber capped pistol grip stock of XXX walnut. Features include factory checkering & nickel finished Schuetzen buttplate. Left inside of lower tang is marked w/ assembly number "1181" followed by wood grade marking "XXX" & "SBC". Back of stock is marked w/ number "2901". Mfg. 1887. CONDITION: bbl. retains over 95% blue showing small marks. Action has 80% lightly visible case colors. Wood finish shows scattered scratches & marks. Bore retains strong rifling.
