Late 19th, early 20th century, England. The satinwood inlaid and painted writing table with a central alcove with arched molded top above a single conforming bowed drawer, all floral and foliate paint-decorated beneath the arched molded crest, flanked by tall doors, each with an oval pattera featuring a classical female figure and diaphanous attire. The table conforming to the upper section with narrow writing surface and bowfront decorated with bellflower border over a single drawer in the apron decorated with delicate foliate scroll work. The raised table on square tapered legs with shaped returns and marlborough feet decorated with bellflower inlays. SIZE: 57" h x 30" w x 16 1/2" d. PROVENANCE: From an Estate in Bar Harbor, Maine. CONDITION: structurally very good. The panel doors tight vertical shrinkage cracks and crazing of paint decoration. Desk originally with a lower shelf evidenced by screw eyes in legs, now absent.
