Cal. 45 Colt. S# 3444. Bbl 7 1/2”. Six shot fluted cyl. Blue & case colored finish. Bullseye ejector head. Left side of frame is marked “U.S.”. Trigger guard below S# is stamped “A” referring to Principal Sub Inspector Orville W. Ainsworth. Hammer slot has “C” inspection marks. Loading gate is numbered “877”. Bbl, frame, grip straps & cyl. have matching S#s. 1 piece walnut grip. Left panel has lightly visible “OWA” Ainsworth cartouche. Colt Serial Number Lookup lists year of mfg. as 1874. CONDITION: original finish has largely faded to gray showing scattered spots of light pitting. Frame & hammer retain some case colors in protected areas. Grips have dark worn appearance w/ handling marks showing light wear w/ chips & dents at butt. Action is sound & in time. Lightly worn bore retains intact rifling.
