IN ATLANTA CAMPAIGN. Musket is 1863 dated William Muir contract 1861 rifled musket. Musket is in good complete and original "as found" condition with dark iron patina. The three diaries are for 1863, 1864, and 1865. They give details of the daily movements and actions from January 1863 to July 1865. Good details regarding the 12th Army Corps and the 29th Ohio in particular from the battle of Lookout Mountain, Union camps at Bridgeport and Stevenson Alabama, early actions in Georgia at the beginning of the Atlanta campaign, into Atlanta, and the March to the sea, into South Carolina and North Carolina, war's end, and private Benham's muster out and going home to Cleveland. The 1863 diary is all in ink, 1864 and 65 are in pencil, but all easily read and overall good condition considering these were carried throughout the war. Also included is his 1868 diary. CONDITION: good to very good overall, musket has Civil War over the shoulder strap used as loose fitting sling. (01-27276/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
