Cal. 60. NSN. Bbl. 35 1/4". This musket has likely seen various iterations during its long career. Quite possibly, it started life as a British officer's fusil from the latter half of the 18th century. The round military bbl. has a bladed front sight with turnings at the bolster. It shows obvious reconversion to flintlock status. The lock and cock appear to be Belgian and are adorned with various flourishes and decorative motifs. Heavy brass trigger guard, butt plate, escutcheon plate, rounded side plate, entry thimble, and middle thimble. The stock has been shortened, necessitating the replacement of the front thimble with an iron example attached to the base of the bbl. and supporting the wooden ramrod. The stock appears to be American maple and has incised lines at the bbl. channel, as well as the ramrod channel. CONDITION: the bbl. and lock have a dark overall patina, and the lock holds both full and half cock. Brass furniture has a pleasing mustard patina. As stated, the stock has been shortened and shows significant repairs at the wrist. Ramrod is an early replacement. Fair bore that is quite dirty. (01-26056/BF). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
