Cal. 40.NSN. Bbl. 42 3/4" octagon measuring 13/16" across flats at muzzle. Top flat of barrel has lightly visible marking that appears to be "J & D LITTLE"."American Gunsmiths" by Frank Sellers offers the following listing: "LITTLE, J. & D., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1852-1860. Percussion full stock target, (MB 12-49)". Brass blade front sight with fixed V notch rear sight. Square percussion bolster. Engraved trade lock marked "GOLCHER / PHILADA". Double set triggers. Pin fastened full length stock. Brass furniture consists of segmented rectangular lid patchbox, crescent buttplate, toeplate, trigger guard, sideplate, nosecap, faceted thimble and 2 faceted pipes. Cheekpiece is adorned with brass old man in the moon inlay. CONDITION: barrel and lock finish have a gray appearance with light pitting that becomes heaviest in breech and lock areas. Stock shows wear with dents and handling marks having cracks and large chips along left barrel channel, lock and sideplate areas with large nail repaired chip left of top tang. Lock will not hold in cocked position. Dark pitted bore retains strong rifling. (01-21692/DS). ANTIQUE. $800-1200.
