“US” SURCHARGED. Cal. 78. NSN. “Attic condition” 61” overall, 45” barrel from 1st model Brown Bess with indiscernible proofs, lock is also from 1st model Brown Bess, 1746 dated “JORDON” with “US” surcharge. Brass furniture from other European longarms, stocked in walnut, wood ramrod with 3 brass pipes, small rectangular thumb plate escutcheon. This is truly “as found” in the black survivor, uncleaned appears complete as assembled like so many other American guns of the Revolutionary War. CONDITION: very good overall, appears all original and matching as assembled in 18th century, barrel and lock have dark smooth iron patina, heavy wear and markings heavily worn and only partially discerned other than “US” surcharge added when original components already well worn when assembled. Stock is sound with hand worn patina, roughness to bottom of comb, brass has uncleaned dark olive patina. Mechanics function, clear smooth bore. (01-21756/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
