This is a fine example of Ames 1850 foot officer sword To a gallant Union officer who was shot at battle of Salem Church, VA May 4th, 1863, captured and had Confederate surgeon amputation of right leg, paroled May 11 and admitted to US Army hospital where he would stay one month and then discharged. Presentation on throat: “Capt. T.C. Kendall / Co. B 21ST N.J.V. / Presented by Friends / in Hudson City / Sept. 4th 1862” UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: lg. file of research. CONDITION: good to very good overall, gray 30.5” blade with good discernible etched patriotic panels and maker’s mark. Sound scabbard with well worn drag with drilled hole at tip & missing screw, shark skin grip worn with tight twisted brass wire, protective washer intact. (02-19193/JS). $3,000-3,500.
