1) This example measures approx. 3 3/4" in diameter and stands approx. 4" tall. It has a metal tag attached that reads "PIONEER COMPASS SPERRY & PIONEER PATENT." The metal tag on the opposite side reads, "MANUFACTURES & SOLD UNDER ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING PATENTS PIONEER MARCH 16, 1920 SPERRY AUGUST 8 & OCTOBER 10, 1922 OTHER PATENTS PENDING" and "SERIAL NUMBER C1679." CONDITION: The instrument shows substantial wear and does not appear to be complete, but the central direction-finding device still functions. 2) We are not quite sure what this instrument is, but it is similar to the above compass, and it also shows similarities with an aircraft gyroscope. It measures approx. 3 1/2" in height and 3 1/2" in width. The device is filled with a green liquid and appears to function correctly. CONDITION: The instrument generally shows light wear. The internal liquid fills approx. 1/3 of the available volume. (02-23657/BF). $100-300.
