PRAHL OF PHILADELPHIA. Overall length: 36". Blade length: 29". Blade has a single medium fuller with a smaller fuller near the spine. Solid brass hilt with the guard terminated by a folky scallop shell. Plain guard joins the rudimentary eagle head under the beak. As with most sabers by Prahl, the type 2 version has very little detail on the eagle’s head. The classic decagonal grip of Prahl is undecorated, as normally seen. The scabbard is quite likely not original to the sword. It has a leather body with a sheet iron throat. All other mounts are missing. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray mottled patina. Hilt is quite solid and shows a very pleasing overall mustard patina. Scabbard shows flexing and some alligatoring to the surface . Throat has a lightly oxidized finish. (02-19203/BF). $1,800-2,800.
