POSSIBLE SPANISH ORIGIN. This horn measures approx. 10 1/2" x 4” at the butt. Both ends are closed with a cork-like material; the narrow end being permanent and the butt being removable. Carved figures on the horn include a soldier smoking a cigar and a soldier holding a cavalry lance. There is a panel that reads “VIVA ELPA”. The horn also has foliate motifs, birds, a topless female figure, and geometric decorations. There is an iron cleat at the spout for attachment to a leather suspension strap, and the opposite end is threaded through the horn with a leather thong. CONDITION: the horn generally shows light wear with some deterioration of the cork ends. The leather carrying strap is a bit dry but remains solid. The engraving generally remains quite clear and easily discerned. (02-22462/BF). $400-600.
