US CIVIL WAR SABERS. 1) An Italian M1888 saber measuring 42 1/2" overall with a 35 1/2" etched blade. The quillback blade is etched over the first 15" with various military, patriotic, and foliate motifs. The blade is stamped near the hilt "F. HORSTER SOLINGEN". Iron hilt with a 2-branch guard and finger-molded, black composite grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina. Hilt and scabbard have a dark patina but show no damage. 2) A good Imperial Austro-Hungarian cavalry saber measuring 41" overall with a 30 1/2" blade. Blade has a single, medium fuller and is marked at the ricasso "HEINR, ZELINKA * WEIN" with Austrian proof marks. Plain iron hilt with a slot between the blade and the quillon. Plain backstrap with ears and a sharkskin grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina. The hilt and scabbard both have a dark gray/brown patina. Grip is complete and shows no wire. 3) A reproduction US M1860-style cavalry saber. Overall length: 42 1/2". Blade length: 34 1/2". Brass hilt with a 2-branch guard and a securing nut at the pommel. Wire-wrapped black leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: light wear overall. Grip leather has begun to separate. 4) A reproduction US M1850-style staff and field officer’s sword with an overall length of 41" and blade length of 33". The blade shows etched decoration, including patriotic, military, and foliate motifs. Gilded brass hilt with pierced foliate guard that includes a large "US". Wire-wrapped leather grip. Brass-mounted iron scabbard. CONDITION: light wear overall. (02-23217-2/BF). $500-650.
