RIFLE. Cal. 50 EX. S# 60904. Mfg. 1891. This rifle 28" octagon with open front dovetail and the rear dovetail fitted with a dovetail filler block. The bbl is marked with the early " -MANUFACTURED BY THE- / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.-" bbl address and "50 EX" cal marking. The upper tang of the frame has a Lyman 1A tang sight mounted. The screws are a bit buggered and were not removed to check the tang marking. The straight grip walnut stock is fitted with a crescent smooth steel buttplate with added period sling swivels. CONDITION: overall fair+. The bbl finish has faded with a mottled brown patina with some spots of old oxidation and handling marks. The mag tube has 2 open holes at the mid point. The frame finish has faded to a mottled brownish grey patina with freckled old spots of oxidation. The bolt retains 70% blue with dings and some corrosion. Reblued nose cap. The stock set has been lightly sanded and refinished. The forearm has small dings, scratches, and handling marks. The butt has a repaired crack and a chip at the tang areas. The buttplate area has a few decent size cracks and a chip at the toe as well. Nice bore with light rifling wear and a couple of small spots of pitting. (01-28783/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
