R.I.C. NO. 1 DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 455 CF. S# 99345. Bbl. 4 1/2". R.I.C. No. 1 (Royal Irish Constabulary) double action revolver mfg. by Webley & Scott. Left side of the frame is marked "WEBLEY'S/ R.I.C./ No 1 455 CF" above the winged Webley & Scott bullet logo, followed by the S#. Top strap of the frame is marked "ARMY & NAVY C.S.L./ LONDON", indicating purchase by the Army & Navy Stores, whom purchased a variety of goods to supply to military officers and their families at affordable rates. Cyl. is marked with small British commercial proofs within the flutes. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the trigger, hammer, cyl. base pin, and ejector rod, which are polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with a 1-piece wrap around checkered wood grip, featuring a lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. German silver blade front sight with frame V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching, with the frame (left side below cyl. and left side of front grip strap beneath grip) matching via the full S#, cyl., and grip (underside) matching via "345", bbl. matching via "45", and with the loading gate, cyl. base pin, and ejector appearing to match via "5". CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting consistent flaking to the polished "shiny" outer layer of bluing, areas of wear and finish flaking that show through to gray patina, scattered superficial marks and dings, as well as scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. In-the-white parts show scattered spots of age related discoloration. Near mirror bore, exhibiting some small scattered spots of light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics, although the ejector rod is broken at the frame connection point. Grip shows scattered superficial marks and impressions from handling and storage, with a small crack present on the left side, stemming from the frame. (26-1231/MLW). CURIO. $600-900.
