TRAP PUMP SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. 2 3/4". S# 988257. Bbl. 30" w/ milled vent rib. Fixed full choke. White target front sight w/ white mid bead. Spectacular full coverage engraving w/ gold inlaid figures by master engraver Arnold Griebel(1890-1970). Griebel learned engraving at Suhl, Germany & immigrated to the United States in 1928. Right side has a deep relief marsh scene featuring 4 gold inlaid flying mallards. Left side woodland scene features 2 pointers w/ a flushing partridge. Scenes are surrounded by vine type scroll engraving w/ finely stippled backgrounds that extends to upper & lower receiver areas. Receiver extension, mag. band as well as breech & muzzle ends of bbl. have complimentary engraving. Receiver's extension is not S# stamped & has an added pigeon. Hand checkered gold plated trigger & gold plated safety button. Jeweled bolt & carrier. Custom beavertail forearm & straight comb pistol grip trap stock of exhibition quality thin shell walnut. Features include Fleur-de-lis segmented borderless hand checkering & engraved steel grip cap. LOP: 14 3/8" over a solid black Pachmayr presentation pad. Mfg. 1942. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: reprint of an article about Arnold Griebel by John T. Amber along w/ printed pages of his engraving patterns. CONDITION: near excellent retaining 97% fine custom reblued metal finish showing slide wear. Wood has very good custom finish showing small marks & wear spots. Very good bright bore w/ some plastic fouling near muzzle. (23-4877/DS). CURIO. $5000-8000.
