SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 17369e. Custom built sporting rifle utilizing World War II German K98K military action made for shooting 1,000 yards. Consignor states rifle was built by Arthur Yeomans (1923-2011); rifle was purchased at an Amoskeag Auction. Online research states the following: He worked with High Standard at the beginning of World War II as a tool designer. In 1943, he entered the USMC as a PFC weapons instructions on Parris Islands. He taught snipers at Camp Pendleton along with being stations in Guam, Japan & China. He was a part of the initial lands on Sasebo on Kyushu, Japan & Nagasaki. After military service, he worked at Winchester as a research analyst along with being a shooting instructor. He was a skilled shooter & won competitions including a gold medal at New York's Metropolitan matches, 50 meter in the New Jersey Championships in Patterson, NF. This rifle has a medium weight 26" barrel having Ramp mounted hooded blade front sight. Weaver bases with military action aftermarket drilled & tapped. Right side of receiver has Lyman 48M peep sight. Military bolt has had body polished, handle has been altered with enlarged knob & cocking knob has low swing safety. Custom Bishop checkered walnut with contrasting black forearm tip, grip cap, spear points to checkering & Bishop buttplate. Hunter brown leather sling. CONDITION: barrel has very good blue. Receiver & floorplate has reblued finish showing previous pitting. Very good stock finish with light handling marks; replacement wood piece where receiver sight was once installed. Very good shiny rifling. This is a special piece noting the provenance Arthur Yeoman. (25-3414/MD). MODERN. $1,500-2,250.
