REVOLVER, "INSET SILVER STAR". Cal. 31. S# 180651. Made at the beginning of Civil War fervor late in 1860 or early 1861. The long 6" barrel revolvers were most popular among Southern soldiers and probably shipped South, no Colt factory records exist on this serial number unfortunately. Revolver has a 1.5" expertly inset silver star in the right grip panel that just says "Texas" to this cataloger. Otherwise, revolver is in standard configuration, blue and case color finish. 2-line Hartford address, small 2-line patent on the left side of frame, rolled "stagecoach holdup" scene on cylinder, 1-piece varnished walnut grips. CONDITION: very good overall, all matching & complete, wedge is not numbered, revolver retains strong traces of bright blue with balance plum/brown patina with scattered pitting, cylinder has mostly discernible rolled cylinder scene. Grips retain virtually all their original factory varnish undisturbed by the inset star. The bottom point of star is partially lifting, but still firmly attached. Grip strap retains about 25% tarnished silver plate. Mechanically fine with crisp rifled bore. (01-24035/JS). $1,000-3,000.
