RIFLE DISPLAY. Relic condition Springfield trapdoor rifle mounted on a display board reading "FROM OUT OF THE PAGES/ OF WESTERN HISTORY...". Barreled receiver is mounted above a card that reads "SPRINGFIELD SADDLE GUN- MODEL EARLY 1870'S/ THIS WEAPON IS PROBABLY A CONVERTED/ U.S. INFANTRY " TRAPDOOR" RIFLE. CAL 45-70" above "FOUND IN MARCH 1973 ABOUT 30 MILES SOUTH/ OF CAMP VERDE. IT WAS LAYING ON TOP OF A LARGE ROCK HIGH ABOVE THE VERDE RIVER.". Remnants of the buttstock are present w/ a piece of the forend also being present. CONDITION: relic condition w/ oxidation & pitting overall. Board exhibits some losses to its frame w/ the right side frame panel having come loose at the bottom. PROVENANCE: from the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22604/MLW). $300-500.
