Cal. .58. NSN. Standard configuration of early assembled State of Virginia Richmond rifle musket prior to Confederate government takeover of Richmond arsenal. Lock has no “CS” which is correct, stamped “RICHMOND VA” forward of hammer and “1861” vertically at tail. The rest of the components are Harper’s Ferry including brass nosecap, iron mountings, “US” surcharged buttplate. No inspection cartouches as expected on 1861 Virginia assembly.
CONDITION: good overall, complete and original though lock is missing mainspring and forward lock screw. Gray iron patina, barrel proofs only partially discerned. Both sling swivels present, as is rear sight. Stock is sound & solid, well fit with several cosmetic blemishes. Lock should work with mainspring added (other lock components sound, good rifled bore.
