Cal. 70. NSN. Bbl. 42”. This musket is a very interesting and well-made assembled musket. The US Military barrel is proofed near the breech “US”, “LS”, “US”, and “P” (in serrated depressed oval). The English lock is marked under the pan “LONDON WARRANTED”. The lock & cock have similar engraved decoration. The trigger guard, buttplate, escutcheon plate, nosecap, entry thimble, and ramrod thimbles are all brass. The iron ramrod is original and of the period. The stock has wide crosshatching at the wrist. CONDITION: the barrel has a dark, overall mottled patina with a lack of patina around the muzzle, likely due to a bayonet that was attached to the musket. Lock also has a dark patina and holds both full & half cock. Brass has a pleasing deep mustard patina. The stock shows normal handling wear and has a 2 1/2" crack at the front of the lock. Fair to good bore. (01-25180/BF). $400-700.
