SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 8450d. Bbl. 23 1/2". Standard K98k sights with hooded front. Rifle was likely assembled by a civilian owner to resemble a "swept back" mount sniper rifle. Left side of the receiver has been crudely ground to accept the repro swept-back mount. Rifle has a repro ZF4 scope with post-reticle and very good optics. Receiver top marked with eagle "135" and "byf 44" denoting 1944 Mauser Oberndorf production. Parts largely appear unnumbered, with the bolt number being ground off. Bolt has repro "key safety" with added red paint. Rear sight screw is missing. Mix of arsenal-blued finishes. Yugo-marked laminated stock set with cupped checkered buttplate, left side sling provisions, and post-war sling. There is no cleaning rod present. CONDITION: stock set appears to be arsenal-refinished, with scattered dings and handling wear. Metal retains 40% of its arsenal-reworked blue, with scattered fading to gray and oxidation. Bore shows scattered frosting and light pitting but strong rifling. (24-1315/MJC). CURIO. $600-900.
