Cal. 54. NSN. Bbl 8 1/2". Model 1842 percussion pistol manufactured by H. Aston & Co. in 1852. Round steel barrel, with brass pommel, trigger guard, sideplate/barrel band, and half-moon front sight. Plain walnut stock with steel swivel ramrod. Lockplate is stamped "US/ H.ASTON&CO." in the center, with "MIDDTN/ CONN/ 1852" stamped at the tail. The left side of the barrel is stamped "US/ W.N/ P", with "1852" stamped on the tang. Left side of the stock is stamped with an oval "NWJ" (Nahum W. Patch), and an oval "WAT" (William Anderson Thornton) cartouche. CONDITION: steel components exhibit light pitting and areas of dark discoloration overall. Brass pommel and trigger guard, exhibiting a pleasing mellow patina, with the sideplate appearing to have been lightly cleaned at one time. Stock bears a small crack on either side of the lock, with another small crack on either side of the rear sideplate screw. (01-24248/MLW). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
