CASE. Cal. 20 Ga., 2 3/4". S# F205527. The CSMC recreations of the iconic A. H. Fox gun are always special, with attractive wood and superb engraving. This example has 28" barrels, fitted with slightly raised matted rib holding two white beads. Tops of barrels are engraved "MADE TO ORDER A.H. FOX" "KRUPP FLUID STEEL". There are two inch triangles of open shaded scroll at breech ends, barrel flats are stamped with grade, S#, caliber info and Fox proof. Maker's name and address are on loop. Small size Fox type boxlock action with rotary bolt features scalloped back, automatic safety and double triggers. Action is engraved with near full coverage nicely cut, shaded scrolling acanthus surrounding semi relief game scenes; with pair of flushing ruffed grouse on left side and pheasant on right. Bottom of action has fine Bulino portrait of two pointers. Trigger plate is engraved with matching scroll. Fences are engraved with semi relief scroll surrounding heads of snarling wolves. Top lever and trigger guard are engraved to match, S# is on trigger guard tang. Finely marbled red tone European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 1/2" over brown leather covered pad. Side panels are checkered and classic "D" grade checkering with flourishes into butt are on semi diamond hand. Matching long schnabled ejector forend has inlet ebony tip and Deeley type release. Interior is lined with burgundy cloth, and has A.H. Fox paper label in lid. Case contains good quality cleaning equipment, snap caps, square oil bottle and CSMC Fox catalog. CONDTION: fine showing considerable field use, barrels retaining over 95% original blue with some light marks. Action retains over 90% original case hardening color, thinning around bottom and silvering on fences and beads. Stocks have a good number of minor marks, rubs and dings in their original gloss finish, checkering is lightly worn. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems. Action is tight, mechanically fine. Case leather has a few light marks and rubs on exterior. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is fine with some rubs, accessories are fine. (22-5820/MGM).
