NAVY, SPARE MAGAZINE, BOXED. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 824040. Bbl. 5 1/4". Astra made 11,449 Model 800 (Condor) pistols between 1958-1968, nearly half of them during the first year of production. An evolution of the Model 600/700, it is a single action blowback pistol in 9mmP but fitted with an external hammer. Although most guns were shipped to commercial sources, the Ministry of the Navy of Portugal received 58 guns in April of 1961, this example one of the few in having a military association, see "Astra Firearms & Selected Competitors" pages 313-315, by Leonardo Antaris. The pistol otherwise presents in the standard commercial manner having an Astra "UC" logo on the front of the slide and a split address at the rear referencing the model, mfg., and its location in Guernica, Spain. On the left tang is a serrated safety. The exposed bbl. hood is marked with the caliber "9mm Parabellum" and a small automatic pistol proof that is repeated behind the gripping serrations and on the right tang that is also marked with the Eibar house proof and the "D1" proofing code for 1958. Full S# is on the bottom of the frame. Fitted black plastic grips molded with the Astra "UC" logo surmounting the word "CONDOR". Push button mag. release near bottom of left grip. The mag. has 7-indicator holes and a pinned floorplate whose toe is marked "ASTRA". MAGS: 2 8-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: spare mag. and an original shipping box picturing the Condor and the words "AUTOMATIC PISTOL ASTRA" on the cover. No serial number reference. CONDITION: 97-98% bright original blue with minor sharp edge wear, largely at the rear crest of the slide serrations. Minor staining of the bare metal of the trigger, and hammer. Mags. in comparable condition. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. VG box with shelf wear and tears at corners. A high condition Astra M800/Condor, particularly in view of its Portuguese military history. (25-3428/LMA). CURIO. $1,200-2,000.
