SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH BOX BY SCOTT PILKINGTON. Cal. 22 LR. S# 126771. Bbl 4 1/2". Woodsman semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Colt in 1939 and later engraved by Scott Pilkington of Monteagle, TN in 1988. Standard factory stampings on barrel, frame, and slide. The frame and slide feature silver scroll engraving with gold line borders. Slide exhibits a gold inlaid pigeon over the top. Right side of frame is engraved "CPX" above the trigger guard, with "engraving by Pilkington/ for Joe Robbins, Forrest City, NC/ LXXIV 74 JAN88 CPX" engraved on the right side of the frame, beneath the grip panel. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish, with the frame being mounted with 2 piece pearl grips featuring relief carved eagles on either panel. MAGS: 1 10 rnd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: non-matching factory box containing factory paperwork, a printed biography of Scott Pilkington, as well as a factory paper test target that is matching to the box. Paperwork includes correspondence and a short biography of the engraver. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting a couple small spots of mild wear, some light superficial marks from handling and storage, as well as some scattered spots of pitting beneath the finish. Bore is bright as refinished, exhibiting some light pitting and fair rifling throughout. Grips are very good overall, with the right panel exhibiting a small replaced section at the left of the screw hole. Box exhibits exterior wear, with some separation at the lid corners, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. A very attractive custom engraved Colt Woodsman pistol. (23-1776/MLW).
