RIFLE WITH FINE RELIEF ENGRAVING AND CARVED STOCK. Cal. 222 Rem. S# 2978. This fine little rifle has 19" tapered round barrel fitted with flip up rear and silver bead front sights. Top is stamped "KRUPP SPECIAL LAUFSTAHL". Caliber is marked at rear along with April 1972 German proofs. Model 4000 action with front locking lugs has Mauser marks on left side wall and is fitted with scope bases with tip-off rings. Action is fitted with gold plated double set triggers and bottom metal has relief embossed floor plate. Top of action and 4" along barrel are very nicely factory engraved with large, open shaded scroll with oak leaf accents. Tops of scope mounts are also engraved. This fine engraving extends to trigger guard bow and bolt shroud where scroll surrounds gold inlaid perching pigeon. Pistol grip stock of relatively plain European walnut measure 14-5/8" over brown rifle pad. Stock features Monte Carlo comb, swept right hand cheekpiece, hard rubber grip cap and forend tip. In place of checkering stock is nicely relief carved with well done oak branches, leaves and acorns. A band of oak leaves is at rear of butt. CONDITION: exceptionally fine; retaining nearly all fine factory finishes on wood and metal. Edges of floorplate and trigger guard show some silvering. Stock is exceptionally fine with only one minor mark on left side bottom rear. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically crisp. (25-2464/MGM). MODERN. $2,500-4,000.
