VOLCANIC CARBINE. Cal 38. S# 109. Manufactured in 1857, less than 1000 made in all configurations, and short barrel examples are scarce. Standard configuration 16.5" octagonal barrel, integral spring loaded full length loading tube, "NEW HAVEN CONN / PATENT FEB 14 1854" stamped on top flat. Silver plated engraved brass frame and butt plate. Varnished burl walnut butt stock. CONDITION: very good overall, barrel and magazine tube have dark grey patina, frame is re-plated, mechanically functional but little sticky in hammer drop. Magazine spring is loose, dark pitted rifled bore. (01-26373/JS). ANTIQUE. $12,000-15,000.
